My name is Madison. I am a licensed and practicing Cosmetologist and Barber since 2014. I currently own this haircutting businesses, as well as a hair blog. And a nonprofit called Barber in a Bag.
Currently, I fly solo. The first business I started was being self-employed in a booth rental situation, I would see my regulars there and continue to care for them. My second is an educational blog The Exquisite Find Hair Blog.
My passion for hair started at 6 years old. I wanted to be a pilot, trash guy, ballerina (as most little girls do), and a hairstylist. Of course, hair stuck. To be honest, people are really what I am passionate about. Listening and helping them think through whatever they’re going through in their present season of life. I hurt when they hurt, and I laugh when they laugh. People are amazing, and hair is just the bonus.
When I was 16 years old I wanted so badly to be a missionary. I prayed, “God, send me anywhere!” and He said, “You’re gonna stay where you are and cut hair.”
Imagine my surprise and feel my ever so slight disappointment. But little did I know who I would meet, what kind of an impact these people would have on my everyday and long-term life. Whether I meet a person one time or spend a lot of time with them in the shop, I am impacted. And I love it. What a joy! And what a privilege.
Why I Do Hair
This is what I am called to do. I want to love people. Listen to them. And educate them in general care and questions about hair. There is a lot more to it than you might think. Hair is freakin’ complicated.
In 2019 God asked me to start a nonprofit called “Barber in a Bag“. We teach basic haircutting skills in street and slum communities in South America. 6 weeks before our first trip, my team and I had to cancel all of our plans due to the global pandemic. Yeah, I definitely didn’t see that one coming.
In 2019 I traveled and worked with an organization called HairAid, teaching basic haircutting skills to women in need to help them provide for their families in Bali, Indonesia.
